Resources Contibution from Aunty Lucy C:
Vision for This Generation
Exodus 17:8-16: The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands." So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven." Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner. He said, "For hands were lifted up to the throne of the LORD. The LORD will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation."
This episode occurred in the life of Israel while they were journeying from Egypt to the Promised Land. It illustrates the importance of unceasing prevailing prayer for deliverance in a time of great crisis.
The Jews were camped at Rephidim. God had already revealed to them that He was their provider. Now He had to teach them that He was their Deliverer. The Jews were not expecting this first attack. Most probably they had settled into their ‘comfort zones’, secure in knowing God’s provision of their daily needs.
The attack was cruel and savage. It was launched on the civilians, not the army. And of the civilians, it was the weak, helpless and handicapped who bore the brunt of the attack.
Deut 25: 17-19 “Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt. When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and cut off all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God. When the LORD your God gives you rest from all the enemies around you in the land he is giving you to possess as an inheritance, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven. Do not forget!”
Ps 83:4-7 gives us an indication of the goal of the Amalekites – the total annihilation of Israel.
"Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you - the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
Likewise our enemy aims at the total or near-total annihilation of the fourth-generation. If we lose one generation, the Church will eventually die. It will not happen immediately but 10, 20 or 30 years down the road. So, although we are living in a time of church growth throughout the world, we must be aware of this clear and present danger. We must not remain in our ‘comfort-zone’.
This scenario is not new. When it was time for Abraham’s descendents to leave Egypt, the Egyptian pharaoh nearly wiped out a generation of Israelites at the point of their birth. This was the generation of those who would be actively involved in the Exodus (ie Moses’ generation). The enemy’s plan would have succeeded but for the faith of Moses’ parents and many like them. When God intends a great deliverance, Satan will counter-attack.
Likewise the fourth generation (those born from 1991 onwards, and especially the 21st-century children) will be used mightily by the Lord. That is why the enemy is out to destroy them. The best way to do this is by destroying the parents, or any potential parents, of fourth-generation children.
If you are an active Christian father or mother in your 50’s, your children will be part of the third generation (around 20-40). Satan will be after them to cause them to turn away from God; or to make them worldly Christians; or to cause marital problems between husband and wife; or to prevent them from giving time to their children. So many full-time workers (pastors) have no time for their children, who desperately need their fathers during their growing up years. Also the lure of a higher standard of living has tempted many mothers to devote much of their time to their secular jobs. The result - children are being brought up by maids (often non-Christian) or by their grandparents. Yet all children need their fathers and mothers.
Babies from birth to 15 months old need the full-time attention of their mother in order to develop the capacity to trust another human being. Learning to trust their mothers will enable them to trust the One True God. This is the developmental task all babies need to achieve within their first 15 months. After 15 months, if they have not learnt to trust, they will be emotionally stunted. For the rest of their lives, they will face problems in not being able to trust another human being. Healthy human relationships will not be possible. Relationship with the invisible Father God will be plagued with great problems.
Thus the enemy has already attacked! And we have been taken by surprise! We, the intercessors, must pray that God will open our eyes to the reality of the crisis we are facing as a Church worldwide.
We must also know the tactics of the enemy. The Amalekites had descended from Esau. (Amalek was Esau’s grandson.) Esau and Jacob were the twin sons of Isaac and Rebekah. Heb 12:16-17 gives us this warning about Esau:
“See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. He could bring about no change of mind, though he sought the blessing with tears.” Gen 25:34: “Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.”
When Esau sold his spiritual inheritance for a bowl of lentil stew, he revealed that he was godless.
At the heart of Esau’s birthright were the covenantal promises that God had given Abraham and repeated to Isaac. By the very act of exchanging these eternal promises for the temporary satisfaction of a normal human need, Esau was declaring that he did not believe in the existence of this Creator God of Abraham and Isaac. He was therefore being godless. His decision did not take into consideration the implications of the covenant between God and his grandfather & father. Instead his decision was motivated by an immediate physical need. …And Esau was one of the third generation of Abraham’s descendents.
What will our enemy use to attack our third and fourth generation? He will use our godless culture. Our Singapore culture (like that of the rest of the First World) boasts of man’s great achievements in every sphere of life – in the arts, science, technology, medical achievements, ability to save the environment, telecommunications, entertainment etc. Man, by his human achievement, knowledge and know-how has become ‘god’. Man no longer needs a Being greater than himself. No problem is insurmountable. Given the time, money and expertise, man can find a solution. He has become godless in a godless culture.
This is the constant temptation facing our third and fourth generations. In the materialistic pursuit of knowledge, leading to a good career, complete with money and status, so that life will become more comfortable, enjoyable, secure and protected, our third and fourth generations will make countless decisions like Esau. Such decisions to satisfy normal human needs will cause them to exchange their spiritual heritage for ‘a bowl of lentil stew’. They will have become godless.
What we do not realise is this :–
God’s wrath and judgement are on this godless culture and on godlessness. This is clear from Rom 1: 18-31: “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.”
What we are not facing is the truth that the breakdown of homes worldwide and the deterioration of human relationships is the result of God’s judgement on our godlessness. And these judgements will grow worse and worse unless man repents.
Repentance must begin with the intercessor. By the very act of turning to God in prayer, we are acknowledging that there is only one God in heaven, and that we are not god. When we pray and trust God to work, we have turned away from godlessness to being godly.
Rom 1: 21: tells us to give thanks. “For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened”
So as intercessors, let us thank the Holy God who has given us Jesus Christ to be the Saviour of the world, and to be the Saviour of our families and clans. Jesus will save us. He will disable and destroy the Amalekites in our third and fourth generations.
(Remember: the names, Jesus and Joshua, are the same name.)
God’s solution to this crisis is to pray. Moses went up to the hill to pray. But he did not go up alone. Aaron and Hur accompanied him. And he needed both of them, especially when he grew tired. Likewise, you may have been praying by yourself for a long time. You have grown tired. Joining the Vigil for Family Restoration for this year will help you to remain steadfast in prayer. Then the Lord Jesus will do a mighty work of deliverance in your families and clans. Hallelujah!

1. God uses Indonesian children in healing revival
Indonesia is experiencing miracles! In the area where three Christian school-girls were brutally beheaded 18 months ago and over 15,000 homes and shops were razed to the ground, three children are being used in a special way to bring the Gospel to many people. Since January 2007, Selvin, an 8 year old girl, Presbyterian, has been used in a healing revival in the Poso District with up to 30,000 people at a time - Muslims, Hindus, Christians - attending, getting saved and healed. Now another two children have begun. Moko, an 8 year old Presbyterian boy has been touched by the Lord and is preaching the Gospel powerfully and last week was invited by the Mayor of Toraja (South Sulawesi) to come and conduct revival meetings with 40,000 attending. Another young girl, 11 year old Maria, a Pentecostal, has begun preaching a message of national repentance and repentance in the churches. All of this in the area greatly impacted by a massive persecution that began at Christmas 1998 and continued on through last year. Now it seems that the prayers of many for this area from around the world are being realized. Tens of thousands have been saved. Source: Annette Hammond
2. Children's revival sweeps northern Thailand
Christians say spiritual revival has come to the northern Thailand village of Suplang because of the dedication of Karen tribal children. Not only do they gather to praise and worship God each day, but they also pray for the healing of adults and children. Christians started praying for revival here about 10 years ago, but they say noticeable change only came when 12,000 Karen gathered for a reconciliation camp last year. "People started to confess the sins of the village, and commit the village to the Lord," Sydney Jariyaphruttipong, a Thai pastor, said. "Eighty families, out of 85 are now Christians. People confess their sins openly. Children start to see visions of heaven. There's a clear change in their lives." Source: Jay Esteban, CBN News Asia
3. Remarkable revival among children in Shillong, India
Since several months a revival is going on in India's northeastern state of Meghalaya. The most unique feature of this revival is the way God is using children to speak to churches, pastors, leaders and parents. Thousands of children have been affected and have brought, on many occasions, their own parents back to a relationship with God. In many cases even divorced or separated couples have been reconciled through their children. In other cases whole congregations have been brought to conviction of their
sins through the revelations the children received.

"My wife Marilyn and I have several friends who foster children," reports church planter Steve Hill from the Netherlands. "They are miracle workers! They are God's special heroes! One couple we know adopted twin boys who had been severely damaged due to the crack cocaine used by their mother. Yes they adopted them! And they were at an age to be grandparents, the age when most are thinking about cruises, cottages and retirement. The medical authorities told them they were crazy to adopt the boys since they would never be normal. They said the one little guy would never walk, talk, see or even toilet train."
"When we met them the boys were about five years old and doing much better than the doctors had prophesied! Both were walking, talking and seeing although the little guy had stopped growing and wore glasses as thick as old fashioned coke bottles. We all prayed and the little guy started growing again! Then one morning he came to breakfast without his glasses. The mom asked him to go and get his glasses. He said, "Mom, since Jesus came into my room last night, I do not need glasses!" And that was the truth! A trip to the eye doctor confirmed that his eyes were completely healed."

5. China: 10,000 children trained to be cross-cultural missionaries
Peter Wagner sent us this report from a recent trip to Hong Kong, where he met with leaders of the underground church in mainland China:
"M told that he learned only by experience how to plant churches. He had never met a foreigner, to say nothing of a missionary. He didn't have a Bible or any other book. His only methodology was to pray and seek the Lord. God poured out miraculous signs and wonders as he planted churches. In the costal city alone they have 1,500 services every Sunday. The dynamic lady in charge of the Sunday School children of 10 years of age and under, named Eden, 37, has 10,000 children under her leadership with a total of 100,000 in the whole Sunday School. The 10,000 regularly hold all Friday night prayer meetings, praying for missions. The 10,000 children all come. Her target is the 465 million Chinese under 15 years of age. She trains her Sunday School children to be cross-cultural missionaries. This year she will be doing three national conferences for principals of Sunday Schools only." Source: C. Peter Wagner, ICA
